It has been 10 years since Hakkasan Mumbai first opened its doors. With dark wooden panels, marble floor, low lighting, and by adding a contemporary fair on otherwise known classic Cantonese dishes, Hakkasan Mumbai stood apart from the stereotypical red and gold Chinese eateries that prevailed in Mumbai 10 years back.
Back in 2003, Hakkasan in London was the first Cantonese restaurant to receive a Michelin star rating and KA Hospitality founded by the Bajaj family was the first Indian company to bring a Michelin brand to Mumbai in 2011. With every detail carefully considered, Hakkasan Mumbai captured the spirit of London’s contemporary culinary scene and introduced a modern approach to authentic Cantonese cuisine. It has become known for a unique dining experience with cinematic ambience and a mystique vibe.
To commemorate Mumbai’s 10th Anniversary, let us take you down through memory lane. During the family’s visit to London, the Bajaj family were enamoured by the food, glamour and experience that Hakkasan in London had to lend. They had a strong inclination of bringing that energy to India. It so happened, shortly then after, through a common connection that they got in touch with Hakkasan Group.
With entrepreneurial roots in corporate attiring, bespoke tailoring, and premium retailing, this was a bold move by the Bajaj family to enter the unchartered terrain of the ever-evolving hospitality industry.
